My ancestors have served in every war in America starting with the Revolutionary War.
My ggggg grandfather served with and was a friend of Geo Washington.
Five of my father's brothers served in WWII. I served in Korea and lost a brother there.
Memorial day to me is LOVE of Country and willing to fight for the same.
We should all pay our respects and gratitude to all of those who have served.
Without those veterans where would America be.

james a ramey,
This memorial day, I dedicate to all the soldiers that I served in
Desert Storm with. 23rd engineers, 5/5 cav.3rd. armored div., the soldiers I crossed
the sava with, 40th engineers, 1st infantry. And especially to my friend in ft. hood,
who was injured by a road side bomb while on foot patrol in Iraq,
during that time, his wife was going through brain surgery for a tumor
that left her blind and unable to take care of her self and her family,
thank you for your sacrifices my friend. I will never let them forget.

Steve Shepherd,
Memorial Day, first and foremost to me,
is an opportunity to remember those who gave the
ultimate sacrifice in defense and/or support of our country and its values.
I only gather with friends and family in an attempt to further the awareness of
why we celebrate and mourn on the last Monday in May. We only have the privilege
to freely celebrate this and other holidays in this country because of the Honor,
Courage and Commitment of our brothers and sisters who gave their lives. Please
remember them, support our troops, and pray for those who place themselves in
harms way everyday in order to keep us free. God Bless the USA!!!

Frank V. McConnell,
Memorial Day is to remember those who preceded us
and those who follow in our footsteps protecting our
way of life for there are many millions who don't enjoy our freedoms.
God bless them all.

all of our fallen heroes out there and those from
the past wars...and including my brothers who served with me in the Vietnam war.

As a former Marine, Memorial Day to me is thinking of all
of the friends that I made while in the Corps and of all
the service men and women that gave their all so we could all
live in peace. And God Bless all that are in harms way and hope they all
get back home soon.

Milton J. Ten Have,
This day of memories has always been special to me. It was called Decoration Day
when I was born on that date, May 30. Growing up, it was an occasion for
gathering bouquets of flowers - often lilacs to place in mason jars of water on
graves of ancestors and/or veterans. Later, as a Boy Scout, I helped place flags on
graves of World War (the war to end all wars) veterans. As a teenager, I became a G.I.
seeing buddies blown apart by 88mm shells. Although the day has become a work-free
Monday holiday, it will always be, for me, a holy day to give thanks to God for those
who preceded me in service to the nation and community.

Mike Bonner,
Memorial Day, to me, is a day to be thankful to the Lord and to the
members of the armed forces. The dedication of the service people goes
beyond the normal walk of life. Those who served, as well as those serving
now give up their personal life to serve their God, Country and fellow countrymen.
God bless them all!

Howard P. Hughes,
When I think of Memorial Day, I get a little sad and a lot happy.
Sad because I am a Vietnam Veteran and I think of all the buddies I had
who gave their all. I am happy for living in a country where we have the
freedom we have to express ourselves like this and for a President we have
that cares about the people and tells us about it.

S. J. song"to our soldiers",
I think about my dad who couldn't get into the military due
to flat feet, but he kept on trying and wound up in the
Penna Army National Guard during WWII. And all of my uncles who
served in the war, I think about how grateful I was that my son survived
Desert Storm only to go back and fight for Iraqi Freedom. He was wounded, but he
came home alive. Now he's getting better and wants to go back to help those people.
And my granddaughter who just graduated from boot camp and is ready to serve our country. All volunteers, none drafted. And my husband who was in the Marine Corps and still tries to serve his country by doing a lot of volunteer work here at home (He has encouraged many a young person to join the military). I think of friends lost in Viet Nam mostly. Lost both physically and mentally. I pray that God will give all of these service people peace of mind and body. I pray that God will give the good sense to all people of this world to come to peaceful understanding of each other and stop the killings, mutilation and destruction of each other. God bless all of our service people and veterans.

Michael R. Ercole,
This Day is always special, as a Firefighter we go out and
Decorate the Brothers who have passed away. I being a
Vet put American Flags alongside the Fire Company flags on
the Men who Served for our country. I now do a Red Friday every Friday,
which we will do until our Troops Come Home. I am so proud to be an American,
my Mom taught us that from an early age. My home has the Flag flying Free and Proud.
My Neighbor Scott was just in Iraq, now he is home safe. I gave his Son an American
Flag to be proud of his dad. Thanks to all the Families of all the Vets. They are all
my Heroes.

susan jarrell,
I have written a song for the soldiers...trying to get it recorded. My son was 101
airborne, fought in Afghanistan and in Iraq. Most of these boys are about 20 years old.
I got to know so many of them, wrote to them, sent them boxes and grew to love them.
Even organized a parade in my home town for them on Memorial Day.
Our soldiers are the brave and the good in this country!
They are the reason we enjoy our freedom now. They should be treated like the
heroes that they are. You can read my song in songwriter 101 thank you for
defending this country is the post. I love this country and I love all of our soldiers, past and present.
They put the
apples in the American pie.

M. Anderson,
When I think of Memorial Day, it brings to my mind a Holiday to come together with family, loved ones & friends, to reflect, honor and give thanks to the many heroic men and women who have sacrificed their lives for our freedom and great country. Furthermore, it is a day to give thanks to our active military and veterans, who have and currently are protecting our American nation. Thanks to all our U.S. military personnel, both past and present.
