Mess Kit :
An aluminum vessel with a lid containing aluminum knife, fork, spoon, for eating field rations (meals) from. It fits into olive drab pouch.

"Fatigues" :
Army field or duty uniform. Now replaced by "Camos".

Cadre :
The training contingent leading trainees at a Basic (boot) Training facility.

TDY :
Army assignment on "Temporary Duty".

Retreat Formation :
Last Army "formation" of the day, in ranks, for posting of the colors.

Reveille :
Army's first (and only) wake-up call in the morning.

Grease Trap Duty :
A worse assignment than KP duty (for F/U's).

Grease Pit :
An in-ground trap adjacent to a mess hall for collection of messhall grease gone downdrain.

A hand dug trench in a bivouc area for crapping.

A 2/4 ton Army vehicle (a size between a Jeep and a "Deuce and 1/2").

A two and a half ton army truck.

To suck up to...to brown nose.

A field exercise simulating battlefield conditions.

Bivouc :
An army encampment remote from main base.

Stockade :
Army compound equivalent to civilian jail.
